About the Position: Serves as a Technical Range Inspector performing both Inspector and Range Control Technician duties within the Operations Branch on a rotational basis, responsible for safe and coordinated use of the Yakima Training Center (YTC) Range Complex.Position is located at Yakima Training Center, WA.
Duties
Monitor units operating within Restricted Airspace for any firing/training restrictions and any scheduled check fires.
Update and modify schedules for the range complex and assist units with planning live-fire ranges
Inspect ranges and training areas to determine compliance with applicable safety standards.
Conduct pre-operation, during operation, and post-operation inspections of ranges, facilities, drop zones, live-fire exercises and training areas for safety and environmental compliance.
Provide data for follow-up correspondence on safety violations, training hazards, and range usage.
Report the maintenance status of ranges and range operations equipment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Work is routinely performed 8-12 hours per day, on a rotational and/or shift basis operating 24 hrs/day, 7 days/week including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) you must report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- You may be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (helmet, flag vest, eye protection, etc.)
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State driver's license.
- A pre-employment physical is required; position requires lifting of items up to 44 lbs.
- May be required to complete occasional business travel.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated experience: providing guidance on federal regulations, policy, and procedures for live fire training and safety, assessing the adequacy of a training areas to support requested training and conducting inspections of live fire training areas to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06)
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
