About the Position: Employee works with the Official Mail Manager in the mail room and distribution center servicing USACE, Office of the Chief Information Officer - CIO/ G-6. The work involves the performance of clerical duties related to the processing of incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, publications, classifications, etc. This is a Term Appointment NTE 5 Years, may be made permanent.

Duties

Bundle mail according to US Postal Service regulations. Run mail through the sealing, metering and cancelling machines for accuracy. Use the mail meter to weigh parcels and mail to determine the correct postage. Provide data information to Records Manager for the semi-annual Positive Accountability Postage Administration System (PAPUS) cost reports. Monitor and receive large volume of official mail involving a variety of items and stressing the importance of the cost control program. Open, perforate, date stamp and read as necessary to determine routing by subject matter. Distribute mail to individually marked boxes in the distribution. Maintain and replenish the inventory of postage office supplies.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to maintain and obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • This position has a lifting requirement of up to 50 lbs in the regular performance of duties.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Receiving and consolidating mail, AND 2) Distributing incoming and outgoing mail by determining correct recipient location, AND 3) Performing clerical duties related to mail handling to include sorting, counting, or stamping mail. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
