As a Quality Assurance Specialist (Aerospace) in the Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate, you will oversee the center's Nondestructive Inspection (NDI) program, ensuring compliance with NAS 410 standards. Key duties include developing, reviewing, and approving NDI procedures, ensuring technical accuracy, and overseeing inspections. You will also conduct NDI assessments as needed to maintain safety and reliability in aerospace systems.
Duties
Serves as the Center’s Nondestructive Inspection (NDI) Level 3. Acts on behalf of AFRC in matters regarding NDI qualification and certification processes. Responsible for implementation and the overall administration of the center.
Develops and approves NDI procedures and work instructions for technical adequacy. Oversees and personally conducts nondestructive inspections.
Accomplishes research and investigates to determine appropriate Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) techniques for any aircraft structure, engine, and their subcomponents.
Monitors and reports on the status and progress of NDI related contracts, checking on work in progress and reviewing completed work to see that work priorities, methods, deadlines, and quality have been met.
Performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft/lab special audits and/or inspections per requirements specified within project Quality Assurance Surveillance Plans (QASP).
Monitors operations to prevent the production of defects and to verify adherence to quality plans and requirements.
Correlates findings with technical publications to determine procedures for repair or replacement when necessary. Investigates and analyzes adverse quality trends or conditions and initiates corrective action.
Audits suppliers to ensure contract requirements are fulfilled.
Prepares reports and maintains records of work accomplishments and administrative information, as required, and coordinates the preparation, presentation, and communication of technical reports to projects.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level:
Performing test methods including Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Radiography, and Ultrasonic;
Assisting in the development of NDI procedures, reviewing existing NDI requirements, evaluating and/or applying new technologies, assisting engineering activities, and performing inspections on flight test, fielded aircraft, or aerospace systems;
Classifying test results, identifying material deficiencies, and recommending viable courses of action for items of equipment.
