This position is located in the Engineering Department of the Phoenix Indian Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The primary function of the department is to plan, coordinate, maintain and improve refrigeration, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems throughout all hospital campus facilities as well as maintenance and operation of the boiler plant.
Duties
PLANT OPERATIONS:
Tends boilers through the use of manual and automatic controls that generate steam for use within the plant and hospital.
Operates, maintains and repairs equipment responsible for providing chilled water to the facility for HV AC purposes.
Monitors various alarms and control systems associated with the plant and hospital facility.
HVAC:
Provides HV AC support at a journeyman level throughout the Campus facilities, or a larger more varied and complex system.
Operates, maintains and repairs various HV AC equipment not limited to large multi-fan air handlers, package air handlers, and
package and split system heat pumps.
Trouble shooting and repair of controls, thermostats and valves.
MAINTENANCE:
Will provide general maintenance duties while on shift at the request of on duty, on call hospital leadership or facility personnel.
Qualifications

Qualification Requirement(s):
Broad knowledge of basic maintenance techniques as a General Maintenance Worker. Incumbent shall be proficient at an assistant level (basic Knowledge) and be expected to attain full proficiency in all trades as required.

Skills and Knowledge:

Prescribes methods, procedures, priorities, and time requirements to be followed and met by Utilities System Operator/Repairers; assigns specific tasks or utility system projects; oversees Utilities Systems Operator/Repairers day-to-day work routines outlined in department policies and implemented through the automated work order system. Monitors and reviews work assignments in various stages of progress and completion. Plans; work sequences and schedule, insures an inventory of replacement parts, select tools, and equipment, necessary to complete assignments.
Physical Demands: This position requires, at times, considerable physical effort, such as lifting and carrying heavy loads of greater than 50 pounds upstairs, ladders, and across roof tops.
Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to work on catwalks, ladders, and in dusty, dirty, cramped quarters, or poorly lighted and ventilated areas such as crawl spaces (which may be wet and muddy). Personal protective equipment is available, appropriate use of this equipment is mandatory.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
