Duties
This position is in the Office of Electric Reliability (OER), Division of Operations and Planning Standards. OER helps protect and improve the reliability and security of the nation's bulk power system through effective regulatory oversight as established by the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This includes overseeing the development and review of mandatory reliability and security standards. It also monitors reliability performance and ensures compliance with approved mandatory standards by the users, owners, and operators of the bulk power system. Work is primarily accomplished through the Commission's authority under section 215 of the Federal Power Act, which includes review of mandatory and enforceable Reliability Standards proposed by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), as well as review of reports produced by NERC.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

- A one-year probationary period may be required.
- A background investigation is required.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- Generally, male applicants must be registered with the Selective Service.
- Relocation expenses will not be paid.

You must have one full year of specialized experience. Specialized experience is defined as: Significant experience analyzing complex reliability matters that require in-depth knowledge of engineering, planning and operation of the Bulk Power System; and knowledge of Commission rules, regulations (including Reliability Standards), policies, precedents, and decisions governing the regulation of electric utilities regarding reliable operations of the Bulk Power System.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience.
