This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Performs the simpler, repetitive and more routine tasks involved in shelter/van overhaul.
Disassemble, re-assemble, and install a variety of units and associate devices of wire communications.
Assist workers with the installation or replacing of electronic wire communications.
Complete repetitive tasks independently such as checking, repairing and/or replacing broken, worn, bent or burnt parts on cables.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- Shift work and overtime may be required to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Obtain and maintain a NACI T1 background investigation.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electronics Mechanic Helper ~ without more than normal supervision. Replacing components and wiring circuits, repairing simple electronic equipment AND taking test readings using common instruments such as digital multimeters and oscilloscopes. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
Works at bench in and round shelters with walking, frequent standing, stooping, climbing, bending, and kneeling and occasionally in cramped and awkward positions within shelters or vans. Required to lift and handle objects weighing up to 40 lbs, often lifts and moves heavier units, wit the assistance of other workers, lifting devices and aids such as movable tables or jacks. Required to use ladder in the performance of duties.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is usually performed inside well lighted, adequately heated and ventilated areas. Occasionally works outside in inclement weather. Subject to cuts, bruises, scrapes, sprains and strains from handling tools and installing equipment. Subject to burns from hot components, RF energy, microwave radiation, and electrical shock. Required to war safety clothing and equipment appropriate to the position.
