This position is located in the Office of the Scientific Director (OSD), Division of Intramural Research (DIR), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Duties

If selected for this position, your duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Serve as a Lead Scientific Program Specialist for the DPSS Committee Management Team, and also as Special Assistant to the Director, DIR. Prepare a wide variety of briefing materials and complex scientific summaries on a broad range of diseases and research areas. Serve as an authoritative source of information for DIR divisions, to include senior- level staff. Assist in briefing the DIR Scientific Director in preparation for meetings and briefings with senior officials of NIAID, NIH, and DHHS. Participate in planning sessions for the purpose of organizing scientific symposiums, conferences, retreats, and workshops, and contribute significantly to the development of agendas and the selection of discussion topics and guest speakers.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Lead Scientific Program Specialist GS-0601-14 position, you must meet the following qualification requirements. Education: You must possess a Bachelor's degree, or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained). And Additional requirement: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing scientific program support for the management of intramural research programs; preparing briefing materials, summaries, or presentations on research programs or scientific issues for use by senior management officials or scientific staff; reviewing or developing specialized materials to convey information on research programs or issues to various audiences; and serving as a team leader for other staff.
