About the Position: This position is located within the Directorate of Medicine Podiatry Department at Naval Medical Center, San Diego, California, responsible for providing patient care, supporting diagnostic procedures, patient teaching, and administrative support work. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Enhanced Leave Accrual may be authorized. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Performs a variety of ambulatory or inpatient procedures as ordered and under the supervision of a credentialed provider and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Administers oral, intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular medication and records medications administered. Reports and records any reaction to medication and/or treatment. Transports patients to other clinical areas as needed and enters data into the log/computer upon patient transport. Inputs and retrieves information using various computerized information systems and performs end of day computer processing. Schedules all categories of appointments for new patients who call or walk in for appointment. Answers clinic telephones, greets patients, answers patient questions.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10 % of the time.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
• This position requires the completion of an Occupational Health pre-employment Physical Examination.
• This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 35lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
• This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• This position requires the use of Personnel Protective Equipment.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:(1) assisting during medical examinations and procedures, and; (2) utilizing automated computer systems to collect, record, and maintain patient medical information and history and; (3) scheduling medical appointments for patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as nursing or patient care. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
