This position is located in the Office of the Registrar in the Division of Registration and Loans (CRL) and is responsible for creating, maintaining and updating records on all works of art owned by or entrusted to the care of the Gallery, and for the location, condition, safety and movement of these works. The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate and execute art movement, packing and handling of objects and to lead special art movement projects.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-1016-11. For this position,Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-09 level in the Federal service or private sector, executing aspects of art movement projects for a museum or similar cultural institution. Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria: Requires a valid driver’s license. Requires extended shifts. Requires weekend and evening work. Requires travel. Requires ability to lift 50 pounds. Requires ability to ride for long periods in vehicles. Requires passing of a TSA Security Threat Assessment. Artwork Movement – Skill in moving and installing art. Artwork Packing and Storage – Knowledge of proper artwork handling, packing, and storage techniques. Leadership – Ability to lead by example, provide instruction, plan and carry out assigned tasks. Education

General Experience (for positions at GS-4 and below): Experience using the tools, techniques, procedures, or methods related to the operation of a museum or similar collection, or to the handling, storage, care, protection, or recordkeeping of such a collection. Experience may have been gained in a museum, college or university, antique shop, commercial art gallery, or other setting involving work with collections of valuable objects or specimens requiring specialized care and handling. Other types of experience may also be qualifying if appropriate to the position to be filled.

Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-5 and above): Experience related to the operation or management of a museum or similar collection of valuable objects. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include collections management, registration, cataloging, research, preservation, restoration, or conservation of collections of museum material, or other experience related to the position to be filled. Most positions require a particular subject-matter specialization, e.g., aeronautics, anthropology, art, geology, history, natural science, technology, biology, or zoology.
