Duties
Serves as an AI (Artificial Intelligence) AI Testing and Evaluation Branch Chief providing subject matter AI expertise to test and evaluate AI systems and Information Technology (IT) technical support.
Ensure the AI solutions and systems are built, deployed, implemented, and perform in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and Responsible AI (RAI) policy, enterprise-wide.
Position organizes, aligns, directs, and manages the testing and evaluation of all AI systems across the agency.
Conducts research and development of metrics, measurements, and evaluation methods for emerging and existing areas of AI.
Ensures AI systems are built correctly and meet desired objectives and adhere to the legal, ethical, and performance standards.
Incorporates DoD AI ethical principles into DLA AI test and evaluation framework to generate an RAI test strategy for modeling cases.
Proactively, coordinates the integration of the DLA AI testing and evaluation program during the product lifecycle from concept and design inception, as development proceeds, and integrated to ensure effective RAI implementation.

Qualifications
To qualify for a Supervisory Data Scientist (AI), your resume and supporting documentation must support:
Basic Education: Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-14 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
Develop and directs comprehensive frameworks for testing the AI system's algorithms, models, data, bias, security, and overall performance.
Applies ethics with test and evaluation skill sets in creating frameworks, guidance, and tools to generate defensible drafts of evaluation plans and requirements.
Tests models to ensure they meet design specifications, business process requirements, data requirements to ensure the AI systems adhere to policy using metrics such as precision, recall, and other Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Supervises a staff performing IT and AI test, evaluation, verification, and validation work.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
