This position is located in the Purchased/Referred Care (PRC) of an IHS Service Unit. The purpose of this position is to provide support services and assistance by performing medical support assistance duties, record keeping and miscellaneous clerical support duties associated with beneficiaries.
Duties
Reviews patient information to help determine eligibility for care, rules and regulations, the service delivery areas, tribal membership, and residence.
Supports staff in examining alternate resources for patients under the program and screens for patient eligibility through the Medicare, Medicaid, Vocational Rehabilitation, and V.A., private insurance or other third-party programs.
Obtains personal information from patient or family members to determine potential eligibility for alternate resources.
Assists staff with follow ups to collect patient medical information, patient visits, and discharge dates to complete medical referrals and decision of payments.
Provides clerical assistance in the reports and monitoring the cases. Types letters and memoranda. Prepares responses and routine correspondence and compile information concerning contract services for submission to patients. Provides customer services to patients and visitors, answers inquiries or addresses requests, and directs them to the appropriate personnel.
Maintains and organizes program file systems. Routes correspondence appropriately via mail, fax, email according. Maintains and coordinates supply levels with suppliers, adding or removing supplies if necessary. Ensures office equipment is in working order and requests for service as needed.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-04: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to perform the work of this position at the GS-4 level.
AND/OR
2 years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
AND/OR
A combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualification s for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify an applicant for the GS-4 level.
GS-05: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level that equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: performing receptionist, recording keeping, time keeping, key-entering and retrieving patient data form the automated systems with patient care and treatment.
AND/OR
4 years of education above the high school level.
AND/OR
A combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05 grade level.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
