Works directly with Diagnostic Imaging Technologists and Radiologists. Prepares examination rooms in all sections of Diagnostic Imaging Service (DIS), including Diagnostic CT, MRI and Ultrasound. Works directly with patients, which includes transporting inpatients to and from the Nursing Units, Emergency Department, and Community Living Center, assisting the technologists and radiologists in the preparation and completion of imaging examinations
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Transports patients and Ticket-to-Ride to and from the Nursing Units, Emergency Department, and Community Living Center; Transports patients and TTR to and from procedure areas within DIS.
Assists staff getting patients on and off examination table.
Virus scan CDs/DVDs from other medical care providers located outside SNHCS.
Answers incoming calls and updates patients' pertinent information in the facility computer system; makes phone calls to patients reminding of upcoming appointments and no-shows.
Receives and directs patients and answers routine inquiries.
Provides general clerical/administrative support coordination work for the department.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Physical Demands: The work requires frequent pushing patients in wheelchairs and gurneys, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying of light items. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The work may require heavy lifting of equipment or patients.
Qualifications

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Practical knowledge of patient transporting techniques. Skill in the operation and use of specialized equipment and materials. Demonstrates technological proficiency in Vista and CPRS. Knowledge of basic medical terminology. Communicates tactfully and effectively in order to meet patient care and facility objectives. Work independently in accomplishment of a wide variety of tasks. Work as Team member with DRT/CT tech assisting with patient exams including positioning patient on exam table, exchanging foot/head holder for CT exams and performing cleaning procedures. Full knowledge of a body of standardized rules, procedures, and operations outlined by JC, ACR, HIPAA and VHA policies/procedures related to patient confidentiality, and maintenance of patient records.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed one half (½) year of graduate education (9 semester hours or equivalent) with a major that included courses directly related to the work of this position (Radiology). Such graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation.

Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate-level education and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total qualification requirements for this grade level. This education must have been obtained at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. NOTE: Your experience must be documented in your resume and transcripts are required.
