This position is located in the Pharmacy Department of the Lower Brule Service Unit in Lower Brule, SD. The purpose of this position is to perform complex pharmacy technician duties and billing duties for the pharmacy Point-of-Sale (POS) program.

Duties

Monitors and maintains Pharmacy Point of Sale system. Updates patient insurance information and works with patient registration to enter correct information in Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS). Restocks medication, checks expiration dates, rotate and stock medications and correctly maintains records of the manufacturing process. Replenishes the automated pharmacy dispensing systems located in the facility.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Individual Occupational Requirements OPM Link: Pharmacy Technician Series 0661 (opm.gov) Specialized Experience For positions at GS-4 and above: Qualifying specialized experience may have been gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories. Experience must have provided a basic knowledge of: Pharmaceutical nomenclature; Characteristics, strengths, and dosage forms of pharmaceuticals; Pharmaceutical systems of weights and measures; and the Variety of procedures and techniques involved in the care, storage, repackaging, bulk compounding, and distribution of pharmaceuticals. In addition to the Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-5: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Example of Specialized Experience for GS-05: Prepares medication for dispensing and administration; restocks medications; educates patient about medication regimen, labeling instructions, insurance information and storage. Submits insurance claims; determines if prescription is billable; maintains files for the tracking of billing and reimbursement. GS-6: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5 grade level. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Example of Specialized Experience for GS-06: Analyzes, maintains, and directs the total billing operation for pharmacy point-of-sale programs; Researches patient records, reconstructs incorrect or missing medical information required to prepare a valid insurance billing when data received is incomplete; Develops and maintains files for the tracking of billing and reimbursement; Manages the regular program of supply procurement and supply management. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
