The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Maintenance Mechanic. The Maintenance Mechanic will function under the Facilities Maintenance Service.

Duties

The duties of the position may include but, are not limited to: Performance of visual examinations, operational testing and the performance of repair work at the journeyman level. The incumbent constructs walls, ceilings and flooring systems, installation of all, finishes, doors locks and trim Makes necessary repairs to all wall finishes including plaster and drywall, vinyl and paint surfaces Installs and/or repairs masonry walls, forms and installs concrete for slabs or foundation repairs Demolition of architectural systems as required and work area clean-up Checks and repairs door and builder's hardware; mounting framed items such as bulletin boards; repair/replacement of damaged floor and ceiling systems. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD08464A Physical Requirements: Heaviest weight handled by the incumbent unassisted will normally be 50 pounds, and with assistance, 100 pounds or more. Uses lifting devices or obtains assistance in moving heavy items. Works from ladders, scaffolding and/or platforms where systems are in hard-to-reach places, requiring incumbent to work in close quarters or cramped positions. Work requires hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate tools when installing assemblies and replacing defective components, coordination for reading equipment and establishing work limits, and color discrimination to recognize color codes. Work frequently requires stooping, stretching, bending and kneeling for long periods of time. Promotion Potential: N/A

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
