About the Position: As Supervisory Natural Resources Specialist, the incumbent will serve as lead for flood risk management, recreation, and environmental stewardship management programs of a multi-purpose flood control project for administrative tasks to include exercising day-to-day technical work direction and for performing personnel management and supervisory responsibilities for all flood risk management, recreation, and environmental stewardship management employees.
Duties
Oversee enforcement of applicable laws and regulations governing the use of these resources and protection of the visitors.
Assist in conducting/planning natural resource inventories, develop compartment prescriptions, and implement natural resource management programs.
Coordinate natural resource activities associated with fisheries management, natural resource management plans, environmental water level management, soil conservation, state and Federal endangered species.
Assist in assuring that state agencies, local cities, concessionaires, and private landowners and outgrant activities comply with the terms of agreed management plans.
Administer the recreation, flood risk management and environmental stewardship programs.
Manage forest/wildlife/natural resources in conjunction with sustained yield concept and accepted best management practices.
Participate in the review of plans and activities of one or more marina concessions for operation, maintenance, and future development.
Provide program input and assist with preparation and assemblage of the annual budget for the project.
Provide technical advice and recommendations concerning solutions to a variety of natural resource and recreation management problems.
Acquire funding on deferred maintenance, long range problems and projects pertaining to flood risk management.
Provide plans for career development of subordinates and training of employees for the project.
Manage public information programs including the preparation and publication of brochures and pamphlets, on-site and off- site interpretive programs, and management of numerous special events.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must either possess or obtain (within three months of starting position) a valid State motor vehicle operator's license for the class of vehicle being operated and must maintain this license.
- Incumbent shall wear appropriate uniform while in performance of Natural Resource Management duties.
- Incumbent will be required to operate flood control gates to control water levels on waterways.
- Incumbent will be subject to random drug testing in accordance with EP 600-1-3.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Natural Resources Specialist- 401 Series
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Leading project teams through natural resources planning, development, and/or management of assigned programs; providing supplemental policies and guidance to natural resources professionals; assisting in the development of management plans, program budgets, and/or project priorities; coordinating partnership efforts with local and state officials, corporate representatives, emergency managers, and the general public. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
