About the Position: The incumbent will serve as a Transportation Assistant (Inspection/Office Automation) assigned to the 407th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center, at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. This is a Term appointment not to exceed 13 months.

Duties

Completes inspections of contractor's performance during all phases of movement of personal property. Completes damage inspections when requested. Provides assistance to Department of Defense personnel regarding various aspects of transportation of personal property. Inspects contractor's warehouses to determine proper methods and adequate protection is being provided against fire, flooding, insects, and vermin. Processes inbound and/or outbound inspection data through various automated systems. Reports repetitive violations of contractor performance and recommends punitive actions. Contacts freight terminals as needed to check for missing freight while endeavoring to identify the receiver and destination of shipments.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work various hours, to include holidays, weekends, or on-call duty.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work overtime on short notice to include nights, holidays and weekends in support of related mission requirements.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Government vehicle operation certificate within 30 days of entry into the position.
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Assisting in conducting inspections of personal property shipments; 2) Counseling personnel or dependents on transportation services; and 3) Reviewing personal property shipping documents for accuracy. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). -OR- Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Transportation Management, Transportation Planning, Logistics Management, or another related field. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer SkillsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Oral CommunicationTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
