This position is located within the Agricultural Research Service, Pacific West Area, Hilo Hawaii.
In this position, you will perform a number of routine duties as outlined and generated by the facilities maintenance request system.
Duties
Performs basic painting such as sanding, scraping, prepping, and coating with all types of paints, stains and sealers.
Fertilizes lawns, trees, and shrubs to ensure health and vigor.
Replaces light bulbs ,outlets, light switches, ballasts and fuses, checks emergency lighting.
Installs extension cords and surge protector.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following by the closing date of the vacancy announcement: 12/19/2024. Qualifications will be determined under the Job Element Rating System X-118C, Qualifications Standard Handbook. While a specific length of time and experience is not required for most Wage Grade positions, you must show through experience and training that you possess the best qualified level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of this position. Qualification requirements emphasize the quality of experience, not necessarily the length. The responses to the questionnaire and your resume should be in significant detail to provide the person rating your application with a good understanding of your ability to do the job, technical knowledge, work, and training experience, etc. (For example You must have the ability to perform the duties of a, Maintenance Workerwithout more than normal supervision (Screen Out). Physical Effort:
Work requires moderate physical effort, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, repetitive arm and hand movements, and occasional work in uncomfortable or tiring positions. Incumbent works on ladders, scaffolding, and in hard to reach places, and must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pound loads.
Working Conditions:
The majority of the work is performed outside and is subject to prevailing weather conditions. A portion of the work is in a laboratory setting. During inspection of laboratories, there is possible exposure to chemical hazards, dirt, dust, noise and insect exposure. Incumbent must observe safety and security regulations where applicable.
