The Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System is seeking highly energetic candidates. The Environmental Services Technician (EVS Tech) position is located at the Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System. EVS Techs maintain VA facilities for Veterans and their families. This position is responsible for janitorial and custodial work, such as sweeping, scrubbing, and waxing floors; washing windows and walls; dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures; and emptying waste cans.
Duties
The EVS Techs who maintain VA facilities for Veterans and their families are essential to the patient care experience at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). A VA healthcare career as an EVS Tech means working alongside other Veterans, who make up 85 percent of the EVS Tech staff.
As an EVS Tech, you will perform a full range of light and heavy cleaning duties and routine housekeeping duties. Veterans rely on the skills of these professionals to keep patient areas clean and safe by addressing spills quickly, discarding trash, installing light bulbs in halls and rooms, and vacuuming and polishing floors.
Duties include:
Cleaning wards, patient rooms, storerooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, shower rooms, and other areas.
Sweep, mop, scrub (machine) floors, vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture, empty waste baskets, clean light globes and Venetian blinds, wash walls, windows, and ceilings by climbing small ladders, refill toilet tissue and towel dispensers and move furniture.
Terminally cleans Operating Rooms by flooding, scrubbing, mopping floor, and washing down all surgical equipment including overhead lights, x-ray view boxes, etc. Duties are performed with minimal supervision.
Disassemble, clean, and reassemble operating room procedure tables, chairs, as well as places linen on tables and chair.
Responsible for set ups for special functions to include, setting up chairs and tables.
Selects and uses approved cleaning agents and germicidal solutions to remove stains from a wide variety of surfaces and to provide a bacteriological safe Medical Center environment.
May regularly and for a substantial portion of time operates a variety of heavy power
machines such as scrubbers, buffers, vacuum cleaners, water pick-up machines, etc. cleaning and
adjusting, accomplishing minor maintenance on equipment as necessary.
Accomplish required tasks within time limits and be familiar with and follow isolation techniques.
Adjust workload variances and cleaning requirements as required.
Work Schedule: Various tours of duties and shifts to include weekends and holidays mornings, evenings, and overnight shifts, depending on the needs of the service. (For Example: 6:30 am - 3:00 pm; 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm; OR 11:00 pm - 7:30 am)

Physical Requirements: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust, and debris.
