About the Position: Incumbent plans effective operation and implementation of environmental protection programs in various areas of hazardous materials tracking to include Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response, environmental OSHA training and tracking, air pollution emissions tracking, Spill Prevention Control, etc.
Duties
As a Environmental Protection Specialist you will perform duties to include by not limited to the following:
Responsible for the implementation of environmental control programs and policies which covers a wide range of subjects concerned with environmental protection, enhancement, and the protection of natural resources.
Support other environmental programs in one or more of the following activities: revise the Environmental Training Plan to ensure appropriate training is planned for Environmental Program Managers, Compliance Officers, and shop-level personnel.
Review work orders, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of construction and other engineering projects for procurement by contract in support of the environmental program.
In assigned program areas, draft notices of regulations that involve facets of several major programs (including programs of other agencies).
Conduct environmental audits and develop solutions to identified problems that are unique and that will be used as the basis for corrective actions.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience required: One year of specialized experience which includes experience: (1) Advising, developing, managing, and/or performing administrative or program work relating to environmental protection programs such as: programs to protect or improve environmental quality, control pollution, remedy environmental damage, or ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations; (2) Presenting high level, technical information on environmental issues through briefings, reports and/or studies to a variety of audiences; (3) Researching/analyzing environmental laws and regulations to identify areas of potential impact and developing solutions; and (4) Reviewing, drafting, and/or finalizing policies, principles, or standard operating procedures affecting environmental issues for assigned programs, such as: Pollution Prevention Program, Hazardous Materials/Waste Management, Clean Air Act, Spill Prevention, etc. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Education
For the GS 12 grade level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
