This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties
Develop process control plans and procedures for repair and refurbishment of weapons systems, range finders, and weapon suppression systems.
Provide technical advice on machinery, methods, materials, and standards for ordnance/weapon systems operations.
Coordinate with users and customers directly to investigate and solve technical, safety, and logistics related problems.
Analyze processes for prototype system designs, evaluating performance, and recommending redesigns.
Conduct weapon related testing and analysis of resulting data.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position meets the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing.
- This position requires you to be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top-Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential". Emergency-Essential designation takes precedence over any transportation agreement or military recall status.
- In the event of a crisis situation/wartime, "Emergency-Essential" must continue to perform the duties/requirements of the position.
- This position is a Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position may be assigned to work both on and off of the installation, which may include travel as directed by the Government. It may include deployment of varying lengths outside the United States.
- This position may be required to participate in training exercises as assigned.
Qualifications
About the Position: Serve as the Deputy Ordnance/Weapon Systems Equipment Specialist responsible for the receipt, inspection, refurbishment, and repair of weapon stocks, conducting research and development, and analysis of those stocks.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes;
Solving technical problems on weapons and ordnance materials;
Inspecting material to assure shipment readiness;
Creating technical reports and standard operating procedures for equipment and/or projects; and
Applying research and development of evolving weapons technology to correct deficiencies.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11)

Physical Demands
Work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as frequent standing, bending, stooping, or reaching and crawling. The lifting of heavy machine guns weighing over 50 pounds and working in extreme environmental conditions such as 110-140 Fahrenheit is required.
Work Environment
Work involves regular and recurring exposures to moderate risks and discomforts associated with working in and around military weapons and on active ranges where numerous systems are in use. Risks and discomforts encountered include exposure to high noise levels, wind, blowing debris, rain, snow, extremes in cold and hot temperature environments, and lead exposure from weapons firing small arms ammunition. Risks also include dangers associated with weapons firing high explosive ammunition and falling objects which result from weapons testing. These conditions require unique procedures, safety precautions, and the use of various types of Personal Protective Equipment.
