This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) involved in the installing, troubleshooting, interrogating, programing/reprograming, adjusting, testing, modifying, calibrating, and repairing of complex integrated aircraft electrical and environmental systems and equipment on board conventional/nuclear certified aircraft supported by the organization and to provide training to and evaluation of all assigned personnel, e.g., Active Duty, Reservist, Civilians, Contractors and foreign military as required in the accomplishment of duties set forth herein. Duties: 1: Performs troubleshooting of complex integrated electrical/environmental systems of related on/off equipment for assigned and/or transient aircraft to include support equipment. Performs final functional and operational tests of complex integrated electrical/ environmental systems, both on and off equipment. 2: Installs, inspects, modifies, repairs, services, replaces, adjusts and overhauls complex integrated electrical/ environmental systems, both on and off equipment, to include, but not limited to: oxygen, fire suppression, air conditioning, pressurization, ice/rain protection, bleed air systems, avionics cooling systems, cargo/mission handling, missile interface units/bomb doors, anti-skid systems, landing gear, ignition, stall warning, flight control, AC/DC power supply and distribution, Integrated Drive Generator, fuel and explosive systems. 3: Utilizes safety practices and tool control procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work area. 4: Prepares/executes effective training plans to maximize training for all assigned personnel, e.g., Active Duty, Reservist, Civilians, Contractors and foreign military. 5: Documents/recommends methods to improve equipment performance, technical data, and maintenance procedures by reporting malfunctions, initiating product quality deficiency reports both on equipment and in technical data and assist in design changes as necessary.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C for the WG-2800 - Electrical Installation and Maintenance Family. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2800 - Electrical Installation and Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an Aircraft Electrician (Aircraft Pneudraulic Systems Mechanic) without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1: Knowledge of assigned shop, trade, and housekeeping practices. Knowledge of the integration of electrical/environmental systems with hydraulic, fuel, electronic armament, instrument, weapon systems, mechanical systems and assemblies. 2: Comprehensive knowledge of electronic/electrical theories, principles, circuitry and practices of one or more complex integrated systems and their relationships. To include, recognizing types and sizes of resistors, capacitors, wiring, and transistors. 3: Ability to apply technical practices in the performance of assigned work. Ability to lay-out connecting circuits and make connections in order to prevent equipment malfunction or circuit overload. Ability to use and interpret computer data, wiring diagrams, technical data, blueprints, schematics, and engineering instructions. 4: Comprehensive knowledge of environmental principles in order to recognize types and functions of valves, ducting, heat exchangers, turbines, and pressurization system components. Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in testing, troubleshooting techniques and procedures utilizing a variety of test devices. Ability to analyze, modify, and repair complex electrical/environmental systems and components on aircraft and workstation. 5: Skill in removing, installing, relocating, and repositioning electrical, environmental, and electronic components to facilitate removal/installation of equipment. Skill in calibrating, adjusting, and repair of components such as amplifiers, proximity boxes, generators, voltage regulators, LRUs and support equipment. 6: Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and technical orders. Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials accounting and security. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: 1: This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow the incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. 2: The incumbent must obtain and retain a Secret security clearance level designated for the position. 3: This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing as a condition of employment. Drug Test requirement was modified with AFI 90-508, Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program, 28 August 2014; Certified Current 18 December 2015 which supersedes AFI 44-107, 7 April 2010. Positions covered by this SPD must be reviewed for proper "Testing Designated Position (TDP)" coding to comply with the AF Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program (AFI 90-508). Drug testing is a condition of employment. 4: The incumbent may be required to fly in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments (TDY) away from the normal duty station. 5: The incumbent may be required to work overtime to meet workload demands. 6: Performs other duties as assigned. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting (up to 40 lbs.). Two-man lift for items exceeding 40 lbs. Heavy carrying (40 lbs.). Reaching above the shoulder. Use of fingers. Both hands required. Hours of walking are approximately 4 hours/day. Hours of standing are approximately 4 hours/day. Hours of repeated bending are approximately 4 hours/day. Climbing, use of legs and arms. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of color. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Work is performed in hangar areas, outdoors, in/on aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Exposed to extremes in heat, cold, humidity and inclement weather. Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. Exposed to bodily fluids, dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids (oil, hydraulic, fuel, sealants, solvents, hazardous fluids, particulates, and gases). Potentially exposed to Hydrazine, Halon, and/or composites, electrical shocks, RF radiation, explosive hazards and Low Observable (LO). Subject to eye damage due to exposure to LASERs. Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces. Slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. May be exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust blast. Working closely with others or working alone. OBLIGATED STATEMENT: This position is obligated to the former incumbent and has return rights to this position under 10 U.S.C. 1586.
