About the Position: Serves as Technical Writer-Editor (Aerial Delivery) independently managing and developing highly complex airdrop and sling load rigging manuals. Performs writing and editing assignments for development of aerial delivery rigging field manuals so that the product is written appropriately for the intended audience and in such a manner that the intended reader will not misinterpret the contents.
Duties
Serve as Technical Writer-Editor (Aerial Delivery) for the Aerial Delivery and Field Services Department of the U.S. Army Quartermaster School.
Responsible for the development of field and technical manuals designed to provide users with certified procedures for airdrop and sling load operations.
Determine adequacy of technical material, forms arrangement, page headings, and page numbers.
Verify that all publications comply with governing regulations and supplemental guidance.
Analyze information to ensure compliance prior to publication.
Organize highly technical information in a clear and concise manner for publication.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance for the duration of employment.
- Incumbent must be able to carry up to 20lbs for this position.
- Incumbent must be willing to work in inclement weather, work outdoors and climb ladders for this position.
- Incumbent may be expected to travel up to 25% for this position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience performing technical writing/editing duties, in the field of aerial delivery rigging procedures, such as developing or editing technical publications, conducting research and analysis of technical content, creating or editing manuals to ensure they contain accurate and adequate technical instructions. Utilizing automated system such as, desktop publishing, word processing, or graphics generation software programs. This definition of general experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree that included a total of 15 semester hours in Technical and Professional Communication, English, Communication Studies, and at least one course above the introductory level in Technical Writing. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
