The Spvsry Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) is responsible for the oversight of a group of MSTs, with administrative responsibility for planning and directing the work. Oversees attendance, leave, approves sick and annual leave and vacation schedules. Informs higher level management of anticipated vacancies or increases in workload. Recommends promotions, reassignments, recognition of superior performance, Holds corrective interviews with employees, referring disciplinary problems
Duties
This is a Supervisory, Medical Supply Technician position in Sterile Processing Service.As a working Supervisor, this position requires the incumbent to Supervise Medical Supply Technicians in Sterile Processing Service and perform the duties of the Service as needed. Such duties include but are not limited to: decontamination, high level disinfection, preparation and packaging, and sterilization as well as other related Service related duties.
The term 'supply item' as used in this functional statement refers to reusable and disposable / single use items: reusable such as instrumentation that is used in the facility and is reprocessed in Sterile Processing Service. Disposable / single use items that are obtained for procedures and discarded after use. The latter may also be 'responsible' items, items with a designated reprocessing life expectancy then discarded.

The incumbent will have in-depth knowledge of the processes for Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) as required by this position. The incumbent will be required to maintain current knowledge of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) which document the processes and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RME appropriate to this position. The incumbent will be able to demonstrate their ability to utilize an acceptable proficiency in the use of RME appropriate to this position.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 0800am - 4:30pm. Weekend in on call; holidays rotate

To be a Spvsry MST-SP=GS-622-8 in SPS you must have current experience in GI SPS.

GRADE DETERMINATION: Spvsry Medical Supply Technician - (Sterile Processing), GS-8.
a) Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-7).
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. In addition to the experience or education above, the candidate must demonstrate the KSAs below:
Ability to manage, interact and deal with individuals of varying backgrounds. 2. Ability to direct staff and manage tasks to be completed procedures.
Ability to lead individuals, manage priorities, and schedule work assignments.
Ability to oversee and supervise all aspects of decontamination, preparation, sterilization, monitoring, and distribution of RME.
Ability to perform a full range of supervisory duties, including assigning, planning and evaluating work, recommending awards, approving leave, identifying training needs, and resolving staff issues
.May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
