This position is located within the Agricultural Research Service, Southeast Area, Sugarcane Production Research Unit, Canal Point, FL.
In this position, you will be involved in almost all phases of the scientist's study and has responsibility for selected phases or conducts test applications of scientific and technical theories when the methods, techniques, and procedures are clearly outlined.
Duties
Maintains, calibrates, and modifies equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.
Collects, prepares, evaluates, and verifies samples and supporting records.
Keeps detailed records of experimental data.
Initiates action to resolve or correct technical difficulties and results or recommends resolution to supervisor.
Requirements

GS-8
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes experience participating in one or more phases of a research project related to molecular biology or genomics; collecting and analyzing samples from plants; and operating, maintaining, calibrating, or modifying specialized equipment.
OR
Education: Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include Plant Genetics, Plant Physiology, Molecular Biology, or Biology.
OR
A combination of graduate level education and experience as described above.
GS-9
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-09 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-08 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes experience setting up and conducting an experiment or research project related to molecular biology or genomics; collecting, preparing, and evaluating plant samples for DNA sequencing and supporting records; and utilizing software tools to manage and analyze phenotype, genotype, or sequencing data.

Education: Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include Plant Genetics, Plant Physiology, Molecular Biology, or Biology.
OR
A combination of graduate level education and experience as described above.
