This position is located in Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historical Park, in the Interpretation Division.

Duties
SUMMARY (Continued): This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.
Duties:
As an Education Specialist, you will perform the following duties:
Plans, develops, coordinates, presents, and evaluates educational programs.
Guides groups and provides services to teachers and students.
Prepares written reports, statistics, and correspondence related to the education programs.
Creates, writes, reviews and updates curriculum-based lesson plans.
Assists with writing grants.
Uses various media presentation platforms for in-person and distant learning.
Tracks education program statistics and prepares related reports.
Assists in planning, organizing, and presenting training workshops.
Assists interpretive and education staff with front desk informational and programming duties.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/16/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position, you must possess the following Basic Requirement by close of the announcement:
Basic Requirements for the General Educational and Training Series 1701:
1. Degree - Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.

2. Combination of Education and Experience - Courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in 1 above.

In addition to Basic Requirement listed above, to qualify for this position at the GS-9 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: presenting curriculum-based programs for students of all ages, using age-appropriate techniques; assisting with research and development of curriculum-based programs; assisting with teacher professional development sessions; and evaluating success of education programs. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in education. You must submit transcripts.

COMBINATION EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Combinations of successfully completed education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. To compute this percentage, first divide the total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide the number of completed higher-level graduate education semester hours (that are in excess of 18 semester hours) by 18. Add the two percentages together; the total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. NOTE: Only higher-level graduate education in excess of more than one-year may be used to qualify for this position. You must include a copy of your transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an
accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using
education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
