The Utility Systems Operator will be responsible for managing Centrifugal air conditioners, high-pressure steam power boilers, graphic control center, emergency generators and other pertinent equipment; Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for PMI, repairs, cleaning of equipment and plant, and serve as an Engineering representative for the Gallup Indian Medical Center located in Gallup, New Mexico.
Duties
Air Conditioning Operation: Including adjusting controls to load conditions, logging information, troubleshooting issues, and administering testing techniques for identifying source of issues, conducting cooling tower inspections, determining appropriate chemical additions for water treatment, cleaning/painting cooling tower, rebuilding purge systems and completing similarly assigned projects.
Boiler Operation: Logs hourly pressures, temperatures, steam, flow and draft taking appropriate corrective actions. Determines boiler efficiency from calculations of feed water and fuel used. Operates the boilers on both natural gas and fuel oil. Cleans and prepares for safety inspections, and operates three ion exchange water softeners.
Graphic Control Center: Operates the Barber Coleman Network 8000 computerized Energy Management System. Receives all trouble calls including sewer stoppages, broken or malfunctioning equipment, and electrical issues. Monitors temperatures and dampers, determining if malfunctions are present in the computer or building equipment. Responsible for contacting appropriate engineering personnel to provide information for specific issues.
Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Using manual and automatic controls to operate two or more utility systems on a continuing basis. Starting, regulating, and stopping the equipment and performing routine operator maintenance. Regularly making rounds of the areas where the machinery and equipment are located, reading gauges and meters, making needed adjustments, taking and recording readings, and performing other related duties such as conducting chemical tests, and adding chemicals, lubricants, and water.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
