Duties
Duties listed below are examples of possible work at the GS-7 full performance grade level.
Assisting in native plant seed and tissue collection and installing and running common garden experiments on priority restoration native plants and large-scale post-fire rangeland seeding and restoration experiments.
Working various counterparts to accomplish projects such as but not limited to the National Forest System, the Bureau of Land Management, the Fish and Wildlife Service’s Nevada Office, and other federal and non-federal partners.
Helping with lab-based data collection, including seed germination experiments, seed counting and weighing, leaf dimensional analysis and herbarium voucher specimen processing.
Aiding in data quality control, preliminary statistical analysis, report writing and science delivery communication.
Supporting the activities of the Great Basin Native Plant Project, an interagency partnership between the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management to further native plant restoration in the Great Basin and Intermountain West.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-6: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following:
Assisted in conducting field inventories of invasive plant species; and/or
Collected samples of invasive plant data for project analysis; and/or
Participated in various weed management activities including herbicide treatment and physical methods.
OR One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture);
OR Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
For the GS-7: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as meeting two or more of the following:
Performed field work for projects related to vegetation management and botany including taking measurements, recording observations, and identifying common native and non-native plants; and/or
Assisted with conducting surveys for sensitive plants in project areas that included on-the-ground reconnaissance and record examination; and/or
Recorded and compiled vegetation and botanical data for use in analysis and reporting.
OR One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture);
OR Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
