This position is located in the Clinical Research Core, Intramural Research Program, National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Duties
Direct health care members in the execution of research studies and resolution of logistical constraints, and assure participant safety, study integrity, and accurate data collection.
Develop education plans that creatively and effectively meet individual research participant and family needs.
Support biomedical research through detailed observations, measurements, and data collection related to pertinent assessments as defined by the study specifications and the incumbent’s expert clinical judgment.
Collaborate with team members to create and communicate a plan of care that balances clinical care needs with research needs and allows for safe and effective collection of clinical research data.
Provide expert consultation in matters related to cytapheresis and appropriately consult and collaborate with medical and interdisciplinary staff colleagues from the specific institute, department, or program.
Responsible for all normal donor activity, including development of donor pool through advertising, recruitment, donor assessment for eligibility based on regulations and protocol criteria.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for a Nurse (Research Specialist), GS-0610-12 position, you must:
A. Have a graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, or associate degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program. NOTE: Degree from a Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
AND
B. Have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
AND
C. Possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.
AND
In addition to meeting the educational requirement, in order to qualify for a Nurse (Research Specialist) position at the GS-0610-12 level, you must have at least 1 year of Clinical Nurse experience equivalent to at least the GS-0610-11 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: experience performing cytapheresis is a necessity of the position; providing clinical care to varying patient populations with complex needs; serving as nurse or coordinator for a specific population of patients; initiating appropriate referrals and coordinating routine care; assessing complex and sensitive health education needs in individual patient populations with like conditions, protocols or other characteristics.
