This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants.
Duties
Provide a program of instruction for the major and optional field of study in electric circuits, electronics, energy conversion, system theory, digital design, communication, computer engineering and physical electronics.
Assist in setting up laboratory areas for cadet academic instruction.
Check equipment used in labs is functional for use in order to simulate designated operating conditions.
Evaluate, prepare and track equipment that require outside repair and calibration
Perform repair and maintenance on the various types of equipment
Evaluate equipment that requires outside repair and calibration.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as
described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized and Other Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Assisting in setting up classrooms and/or laboratories for instruction, (2) performing maintenance and/or repairs on equipment, and (3) providing guidance on proper usage of electronic equipment such as generators, frequency counter, etc.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-07).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
