This position serves as Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas and assigned Community Based Outpatient Centers (CBOCs) of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. As a Supply Technician, you will provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provides wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instruments sets, and equipment.
Pulls stock and material, replenishes stock inventory, interacts with customers, and maintains records on stock levels.
Distributes items according to established or ad hoc requirements in computerized inventory management system.
Ensures data integrity of the inventory management system.
Utilizes computerized systems including bar-coding and automated inventory systems for the delivery and inventory control of supplies.
Utilizes an automated inventory system to monitor issues and receipts in support of stock replenishment processes.
Checks inventory for stock identified for recalled items and hazard alerts.
Monitors expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates.
Ensures critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled.
Interprets policies, procedures, manual and regulations pertaining to supply/inventory management and federal acquisition systems.
Recommends revisions in stock levels as needed to supply changes to Inventory Management Specialists.
Resolves differences between records and physical count of stock.
Communicates with lead or supervisor on any concerns related to supplies, equipment, and procedures. Escalates complex or unresolvable issues to the supervisor or more senior staff.
Provides information to customers or external stakeholders regarding medical supplies.
Works with customers to resolve supply management issues including receiving requests, clarifying user requirements, explaining delays, expediting deliveries, and resolving problems.
Completes specialty cart preparation and stocking.
Delivers supplies in a timely and accurate manner, ensures supplies and material are delivered in sterile and operational condition.
Cleans assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles as published in infection control guidelines, local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Joint Commission standards as scheduled.
Fills requests for items based on daily schedules of need or on an emergent basis as appropriate.
Maintains stock and primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services.
Distributes items according to established or ad hoc requirements in a computerized inventory management system.
Informs clinic and ward personnel on new or changed items and supplies, current medical resources, and shelf life.
Provides information to customers or external stakeholders regarding medical supplies.
Escalates complex or unresolvable issues to the supervisor or more senior staff.
Performs daily inventory using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule.
Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds).
Work Schedule: Various Work Schedule of rotating shifts (Sunday thru Saturday working 5 days). Rotating weekends. Morning Shift, Swing Shift and Midnight Shift.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Sunday - Saturday - Can be assigned to any shift 1st, 2nd, or 3rd - Los Angeles location.
Rotating Schedule. Santa Maria location Monday - Friday - schedule TBD

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/13/2024.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the following:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this Supply Technician (Medical) position. Specialized experience includes: providing supplies and material to clinical and/or administrative areas of a facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing supplies, instruments and other material; pulling stock, replenishing stock and maintaining records on stock levels; monitoring expiration dates; cleaning assigned areas in accordance with regulations and policy; utilizing an automated system to maintain inventory; and answers customer questions regarding supplies and materials.

EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)Successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university.

Possess an equivalent combination of specialized experience and post high school education as described above that demonstrates my ability to perform the duties of this position. For the GS-05, only education in excess of 60 semester hours (2 years) is creditable.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, may move heavier items that weigh over 40 pounds. Works throughout the medical center and supported catchment areas, which includes wards, storage buildings, and warehouses that range from a clean environment to hot, cold, drafty and poorly lighted. The possibility of trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises or injury are present in the day-to-day work of the position. Work requires stocking supplies in the primary inventory area as well as numerous secondary inventory points throughout the hospital work area, including wards, clinics, operating rooms, warehouses and nursing areas. Work requires maintaining a clean environment while performing tasks that can produce dust or other infectious pollutants while transitioning between environments. Supported units may be offsite requiring roundtrip travel time in excess of 90 minutes. Tours of duty may have various shifts available. Must be willing to work a rotational shift if required..
