About the Position: This is a Tractor Operator position located on Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. Position performs duties in support of either the Equipment Section or the Land Management Section for the Department of Public Works.

Duties
Operate four-wheel tractor with attachments.
Connect and adjust attachments including power takeoff attachments.
Perform maintenance on tractor and equipment.
Operate 5 to 16 ton dump and compactor type vehicles.
Shape, prune, top and remove trees and shrubs according to instructions.
Construct and repair fences, set clothesline poles, installs and repairs signs, seal cracks and fill holes in roadways.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Work requires sitting, standing, stooping, bending and climbing on equipment. Constant arm and leg movement is required to turn and operate tractors or trucks. Incumbent must climb ladders when pruning and trimming trees.
- This position works outside in all kinds of weather and is subject to discomfort of dust, exhaust fumes and traffic hazards.
- Operation of tractor involves driving over steep slopes, rough terrain and some danger of injury to hands and/or fingers while installing and/or removing attachments.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License Class B.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This
position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Tractor Operator without more than normal supervision. Operate a tractor with attachments such as sickle bar, mowers, seeders, fertilizer spreader, grader blade, sprayer, and brush chipper to perform general maintenance of grounds. Connect attachments including power takeoff attachments. Perform basic maintenance on tractors and equipment such as greasing, tightening bolts and belts and cleaning. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

At times the operator has to exert extra effort to maintain balance and position at the controls of the equipment. Work requires sitting, standing, stooping, bending and climbing on equipment. Incumbent must climb ladders when pruning and trimming trees.
Works outside in all kinds of weather; subject to discomfort of dust, exhaust fumes and traffic hazards. Operation of tractor involves driving over steep slopes, rough terrain and some danger of injury to hands and/or fingers while installing and/or removing attachments. Is exposed to injuries from the use of tools, falls, and falling objects such as tree limbs. Wears protective clothing.
