Duties

You will regulate fuel feed and water levels and maintain required steam pressure or temperatures. You will check flame for correct color and shape and make adjustments for proper combustion. You will perform routine preventive maintenance and minor operational repairs. You will assist the boiler plant operator in performing more difficult repairs and maintenance. You will perform a variety of standard chemical tests on boiler and feed water.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license and maintain on base driving privileges.
  • May be requires to report for duty during weather conditions pertaining to ice and snowstorms, high winds, and hurricanes.
  • May be subject to call back for work during off-duty hours when an emergency arises to include weekends and holidays.
  • Works on a rotating seven-day-a-week, three-shifts-per-day plan.
  • Subject to high temperature, constant noise, rotating machinery, soot, dirt, grease, chemicals, oil, and fumes in the work area
  • Exposed to fumes from gas and oil, and the danger of cuts, bruises, and broken bones while working around boilers and other machinery.
  • Employee will be required to wear ear protection, hard hat, steel-toe-shoes, and other safety equipment which may be hot and uncomfortable.
  • Frequently will carry parts and chemical supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Operate function of numerous pumps, valves, regulators, gauges, recording instruments, controls, power operated dampers, and conveyors.
