This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The installation rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove.
Duties
Develops and implements the Fort Cavazos Pest Management Program.
Serves as the expert on all pest management matters.
Oversees the planning, development, and execution of an effective pest management program for all facilities at Fort Cavazos.
Serves as Installation Pest Management Coordinator (IPMC).
Performs the full range of program administration for pest management services on installation property.
Assists pest management, veterinary, golf course, agronomist, and fish and wildlife personnel with questions and problems.
Collaborates with National, Federal, State, local and private organizations to facilitate timely detection of disease transmission and to integrate and evaluate controls to reduce disease transmission.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- Position requires the incumbent to carry a firearm.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position requires tetanus vaccination and rabies pre-exposure prophylaxis immunization.
- Position includes flexible scheduling of duty hours to accommodate evenings/ weekend program activities.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Entomologist:
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in in entomology; or a related discipline of the biological or physical sciences that included at least 16 semester hours in entomology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: I have a combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major that included course work as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Evaluation of Education: Applicants with major fields of study in biology, zoology, or invertebrate zoology may fully meet the basic educational requirements if their academic preparation included substantive instruction (including appropriate laboratory and field work) in basic general entomology, taxonomy, physiology, ecology, general and organic chemistry, general physics, and mathematics or statistics that provided some training in the analysis of variables.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes monitoring pest control service contracts; advising on courses of abatement; or conducting facility surveys for prevention and abatement of structural pests. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
