About the Position: You will provide grounds maintenance and snow removal services for the Public Works Division, Fort Greely, Delta Junction, Alaska.

Duties

Perform grounds maintenance using lawn mower, tractors, and bob cat. Perform snow removal operations on sidewalks and driveways. Perform daily operator's maintenance on all equipment used whether hand or engine driven equipment. Perform general labor duties to include digging ditches, grading, sloping, and occasional jack hammering.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must either possess or must be able to obtain and maintain Alaska State Driver's License (required to operate motor vehicles across the installation and occasionally to pick-up or deliver supplies to worksites off site).
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
  • Incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
  • Position requires the employee to pass pre-employment physical and annually thereafter.
  • Exerts very heavy physical effort in doing tasks such as frequently lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Tractor Operator~ without more than normal supervision. I can operate and perform common maintenance duties one or more grounds maintenance vehicle such as field tractors, mowers, fertilizers, spreaders, snow removal or tree removal equipment. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Working Conditions- Works outside in all types of weather and inside in areas that may be dusty, drafty, and noisy. Equipment, tools, and tasks frequently require special care to avoid serious injuries. Subject to loud noises, dirt, grease, oil, cuts, burns, and other injuries from handling materials, tools, and equipment. May require use of protective shoes, gloves, and safety glasses when working around craftsmen or asphalt repair work. Some work is performed outdoors under various weather conditions.
