The primary purpose of this position is to provide a well rounded Sports and Fitness Program for authorized personnel. The sports specialist under the supervision of the Fitness & Sports Director, ensures the program provides opportunities for varsity, extramural , intramural, and self-directed programs.
Duties
This position is responsible to organize, plan supervise, direct, and evaluate these programs requiring innovative approaches to serve a medium size military community of over 10,000 fitness center patrons monthly.
DUTIES:
Monitors and supervises all fitness and sports pro and activities under the guidance of the Fitness and Sports Director. Plans, organizes, and implements a well-rounded sports program.
Assists the Fitness Coordinator in a well-rounded fitness program to accommodate the need of personnel on the weight management program.
Submits completed documentation and forms, for procurement of materials and equipment associated with all ongoing fitness and sports programs to the Fitness and Sports Director for approval.
Performs routine equipment maintenance according to maintenance plan in addition to applying light oil to select moving parts of the CYBBX equipment.
Prepares and inspects and maintains sports fields, and other recreational areas and enclosures that fall under the control of the Fitness and Sports program, for scheduled activities as needed.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions and Administrative and Management Positions; Sports Specialist Series, 0030.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least have at least 3 years of general experience, 1 year of which is equivalent to Federal experience at the next lower grade (GS-04) level, pay band (NH-01), or equivalent (pay schedule, pay band, etc). General experience includes experience that provided a knowledge of the physical and psychological factors in individual and team sports, and the nature, purposes, and organization of recreational or competitive individual and team sports. Examples of qualifying general experience include work as: 1) Physical education specialist; 2) Athletic director, administrator, or coach in an educational, community, or industrial sports program; and 3) Umpire, official, or manager of individual or team sports competitions.

EDUCATION: Completed 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study in physical education. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience as described above may be used to qualify for this position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Working knowledge of general office administrative and clerical procedures, maintain reservation calendars, and manage/maintain files and office forms.
Knowledge of military sports programs, procedures of leagues and tournament play & official sports rules.
Ability to read and interpret specific procedural guidelines pertaining to administrative support, including locally developed operating instructions, directives, and forms.
Ability to learn inventory control and cash handling procedures. Some managerial skills required.
Practical knowledge of the rules and procedures of recreation activities and skill in recreation equipment and materials.
Ability to operate equipment to prepare playing areas for competition.
Ability to administer first aid and CPR.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
