This is an advanced performance level position in the Sterile Processing Service as a Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) RME Coordinator. In this position, the incumbent plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates all activities associated with a comprehensive total medical supply support operation.
Duties
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Oversight and coordination of standard operating procedures (SOP's), provides recommendations and assistance to staff members.
In addition, is responsible to interact administratively with all services that are impacted by RMD. Formulates and participates in development of heath care management policies, programs and operations.
Incumbent is responsible for RMD SharePoint, Non-Critical Master List for the SFVAHCS. This includes, but is not limited to: Surgery, Minor Clinic, ENT, Podiatry, Women's Health, Imaging, Nursing, Dental, Gastrointestinal including the Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
The RME Coordinator serves as the monitoring specialist for all activities of SPS, which includes the operating room case cart management system. Monitors the process of Cleaning/decontamination, sterilization, reprocessing, and distribution of critical, semi-critical and non-critical RMD. This includes following the use of bacteriological controls, principles and methods of sterilization, packaging, and assembly of simple to more complex items for therapeutic and surgical procedures.
Develops procedures to evaluate the quality of work performance and outcomes as it relates to the quality assurance program.
Maintains a system of internal and external reviews ensuring overall compliance of all critical, semi-critical and non-critical RMD used within the medical center. Tracks and analyzes required documentation pertaining to critical, semi-critical and non-critical RMD within the scope of SPS for quality control purposes. Utilizes qualitative analysis tools to prepare reports for trending, evaluate operations and facilitate improvements in workflow and quality processes. Updates the quality assurance program annually or when manufacturer information and guidelines are changed.
The incumbent will manage RMD according to the SPS Directives, coordinate with services when a clinical service identifies medical equipment requested for trial. When the equipment to be trialed arrives on site, the incumbent will supervise the specialty service on the proper procedure to ensure that it has been recorded in the using service's equipment inventory listing and has received the necessary reprocessing and safety checks prior to being deployed
to the using service.
In emergent situations when it is necessary to obtain loan equipment the incumbent will coordinate within the same procedures in an expeditious manner.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:

Experience and/or Education:
Experience. Six months of experience that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work or provides an understanding of the work; -OR-
Education. One year above high school that included at least 6 semester hours in health care related courses such as sterile processing, nursing assistant, hospital corpsman, and operating room and surgical technician courses or other courses related to the position; -OR-
Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.
English Language Proficiency: MSTs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d).

Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:

Ability to interpret and apply sterile processing/infection prevention regulations and policies.
Ability to evaluate new products and equipment.
Ability to initiate and lead interdisciplinary groups in carrying out sterile processing functions.
