The primary purpose of this position is to oversee and administer all the responsibilities for the circulation of library material and to perform interlibrary loan and related services for the D' Azzo Research Library (AFIT)

Duties

Serves as primary technician responsible for all circulation processes and issues. Process interlibrary loan requests placed by AFIT students, faculty and staff and process interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests from other libraries. Provides ready reference services to library clientele. Provides service for library programs. Performs clerical and administrative duties in support of the library's interlibrary loan services.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualifications Standard for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have or within 120 days will have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include experience assisting in applying standardized library rules, procedures, and operations related to one or more library functions, such as those used to maintain the collection, perform interlibrary loan services, locate information, process library materials, assist clientele with routine inquiries, and perform circulation duties including resolving recurring problems. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. In-depth or broad knowledge of a body of library regulations, procedures, and policies related to one or more library functions or specializations. 2. Knowledge of large bibliographic databases and local modifications of standard classification and bibliographic categories to access cataloging records and adapt or change bibliographic information to meet specific library classification requirements. 3. Knowledge of the wide variety of interrelated steps and procedures required to order and process different types of library materials within budget guidelines, comparing prices, and services offered by competing vendors. 4. Knowledge of the public access catalog, periodical index, and other finding aids to assist clientele in finding information in the library's collection. 5. Knowledge of variety of standard reference sources to answer ready reference questions. 6. Knowledge of library operating policies, circulation procedures, ready reference sources, and basic operation of user-access equipment to serve as the employee-in-charge of the library in the absence of the librarian. 7. Knowledge of databases and manual files used by a large library with several specialized collections to locate material requested by patrons or borrowing libraries. 8. Knowledge of the nature and capability of word processing software procedures and function keys to perform a substantial range of functions such as generating tables of contents, importing graphs or databases, creating glossaries, aligning multiple columns, automatically printing document identification or other notations the top or bottom of the page, and creating form letters and automatically merge these with mailing lists. 9. A fully qualified typist is required. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
