The Equipment Servicer position is located within Environmental Management Services (EMS) in Fargo, ND, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center. The position, functions as Equipment Services with primary responsibility to maintain such equipment as waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, power scrubbing machines, and wall washing machines. The work includes disassembling, making minor repairs, cleaning, oiling, and greasing equipment and replacing worn gears, gaskets, belts, etc.
Duties
Duties for the position include but are not limited to:
Performing maintenance, repair and modification of equipment, such as vacuum cleaners, (e.g., single/double motor upright and micro static canister types), powered single disk scrubbing machines, automatic floor washers/scrubbers, high speed floor polishing machines, heavy duty ride-on floor scrubbers and carpet extractors.
Disassembling, testing, troubleshooting, fitting, cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn gears, gaskets, belts, hoses, brushes and roller bearings.
Installing, maintaining and or repairing of chemical dispensing units, soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, mirrors, sharp containers, tool racks and related items.
Cleaning, maintaining, and repairing of wheeled transport devices such as but not limited to wheelchairs, non-powered scooters, dollies, hand trucks, carts and bins.
Performing other duties assigned that are related in nature.
Selecting and operating appropriate power equipment and selecting and properly utilizing the correct cleaning and polishing chemicals.
Using common hand tools, such as pliers, wrenches, hammers and screwdrivers.
Prioritizing and performing work on the initiative and judgement of the incumbent.
Communicating and treating customers in a courteous, tactful and respectful manner.

Physical Requirements: required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries items that weigh up to 40 pounds. Heavier items are moved with weight-handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The employee is exposed to cuts and bruises from hand powered tools and equipment and may be subject to flying debris and loud machine noise.
Working Conditions: The work is performed inside areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated. Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily, and slippery. There is frequent exposure to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises and to noise and vibration from machines. Dirt, grease, and dampness are frequently encountered. Various protective devices, such as gloves, safety shoes, and glasses are used.
