This position is located in Mojave National Preserve, in the Science and Resource Stewardship Division.

Duties
Identify research needs, prepare requests for proposals or statements of work, and provide oversight for research purposes.
Develop and conduct scientifically credible protection, mitigation, and restoration projects.
Develops and carryout statistically valid data collection protocols for ecological components and processes.
Provide clear communication and oral presentations.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by 11:59 EST when the applicant cut-off is reached (which may be sooner than 12/09/2024).
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
Basic Education Requirement:
Applicant must have successfully completed a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biology, or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in a basic and applied biological science. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences. You must include all relevant transcripts (undergraduate and graduate).

To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience for this position is: assisting with inventory and monitoring wildlife/ecological studies using established procedures, carrying out statistically valid data collection protocols for monitoring, performing data collection using the latest automated technology such as electronic data collectors; assisting with analysis of data; preparing reports regarding the results of inventory, monitoring, surveying, and research activities; identifying research needs and supporting oversight for research projects. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least two full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education, a M.S. or equivalent master's degree in a directly related field such as natural resource management, natural sciences, biology, ecology, zoology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. One year of specialized experience or 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree as described above; to combine education and experience, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of completed graduate education beyond the first year by 18 (or 27 for quarter hours). Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include hours per week worked and must include transcripts.
To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience for this position is: Manage natural resources, including wildlife, under such mandates as the Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, or the Environmental Quality Act. Experience includes conducting wildlife/ecological monitoring, surveys, band transects, random point contacts, counts, following established protocols, managing complex biological data using computer software (such as Microsoft Access, SQL, Excel, Word), and analyzing and presenting complex long-term data sets utilizing software like R. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of three full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent graduate degree at an accredited college or university in biology, ecology, zoology. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, 6 months of the specialized experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and 45 semester hours or 68 quarter hours of directly related graduate level college study in an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education) may be a qualifying combination. You must include hours per week worked and must include transcripts.
