Incumbent of this position will develop/lead a full range of formal interpretive programs including talks, hikes, evening programs, and other special programs; coordinate day-to-day operations of a visitor center including schedule development, and assist with coordination of special events for the district.

Duties
The major duties of the Park Ranger (Interpretation) position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Serves as the volunteer coordinator for Pinnacles National Park.
Research, develop and present interpretive talks and programs for diverse audiences, both inside and outside of the park.
Manage all aspects of a high quality interpretive program.
Communicate effectively with visitors and representatives of external groups such as Park partners, neighboring communities, agencies, etc.
Coordinates community engagement activities with external partners, community members, and staff.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/17/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. Your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year to month/year), and must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR:
Must have language proficiency in Spanish and English - reading, writing, and speaking in order to conduct programs in Spanish and English to convey safety, orientation, and interpretive information to Spanish-speaking visitors and local community members in person, by phone and in writing.
In addition to the requirements described above, the following experience and/or education is required.
To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Technical work; administrative work; scientific work; fish and wildlife management; recreation management, park guide or tour leader; environmental educator or teacher; law enforcement or investigative work; archeological or historical preservation research work; forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations; and/or other park related work. You must include the hours worked per week annotated on your resume.

EDUCATION:
Have four years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or 24 semester hours of course work in a related field. (Related fields of study include: natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources). You must include your official transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Have an equivalent combination of education and experience. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to 1 year of specialized experience. You must include the hours worked per week annotated on your resume and your official transcripts.
To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Park ranger; law enforcement; emergency medical technician (EMT) or paramedic; forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations; or other similar work. You must include the hours worked per week annotated on your resume.

EDUCATION:
Possess one year of graduate level study or superior academic achievement in a related field. (Related fields of study include natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, emergency management, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources). Must possess at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Coordinating, managing, or directing interpretive programs; developing long range interpretive program plans; developing and training others on educational programs; managing interpretive staff or other similar work. Possess two full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education, or a master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field. (Related fields of study include natural resource management, natural sciences, marine biology/sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, wetlands ecology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources).
