This position is located on the Mark Twain National Forest, Doniphan Ranger District, with a duty location of Doniphan, MO. This position oversees a small team responsible for the completion of preparations required prior to offering timber for sale. Duties

Responsibilities are listed at the full performance level (GS-09) Performs supervisory duties 20% or less of the time. Assist with land management planning by collecting and analyzing field data used to complete environmental documents. Oversee determination of sale boundaries, proper location of logging roads, acceptable marking and cutting methods, stumpage prices. Determine all resources needed to complete the layout of timber sales. Determine timber sale is consistent with legal and regulatory requirements. Identify environmental constraints affecting layout of timber sale project. Provide administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit. Prepare detailed maps, timber sale appraisals, advertisements, prospectus and bid forms for timber sale. Ensure all timber sale preparation activities are in compliance with the appropriate decision document.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. For more information on the qualifications for this position, visit the Office of Personnel Management's General Schedule Qualification Standards. Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-08: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience are one or more of the following: Drafted timber cruise plans, performed lay out of timber sale boundaries; Summarized cruise and marking data for inclusion in reports describing timber quantity, resources, topographic features and timber marking guidelines; Prepared timber sale appraisals and contracts. OR Two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or master's degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position such as: Forestry, Range Management, Agriculture. OR Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (in excess of 18 semester/27 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. For the GS-09: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include one or more of the following: Determined sample cruise design, selected sampling methods and completed timber sale cruises; Evaluated logging problems and determined most feasible logging method, considering tractor, skyline or helicopter; and/or Gathered data for logging system analysis such as road access, skyline profiles, and landing location suitability. OR Two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or master's degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position such as: Forestry, Range Management, Agriculture. OR Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (in excess of 18 semester/27 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
