The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as the primary point of contact for all aircraft movement, maintenance, and related activities being performed on the flightline.

Duties

Performs work involving the preparation of plans for specific operations including scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance requirements. Performs work involving the scheduling and dispatching of jobs in support of aircraft maintenance activities. Performs work involving preparation and maintenance of aircraft forms and records. Acts as the primary point of contact between flight line agencies and airfield management agencies for mishaps, incidents, and unusual occurrences. Analyzes reports generated by the automated maintenance management system; Operates a multi-frequency maintenance radio and telecommunications system.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Provides management assistance to the maintenance Emergency Operation Center when activated during contingency, mobility, or exercise operations
  • May be required to assign personnel to accomplish door guard duties, runner duties and assist in running checklists, answering the phone and passing information on to the maintenance divisions.
  • May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty. Access is required to information or areas classified up to SECRET
  • May be required to act as Senior Controller when needed
  • Incumbent may require short and extended periods of TDY within the continental United States. Requires travel by any or all modes of military and/or commercial transportation
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of operation, installation, and repair of a variety of aircraft systems, assemblies, and surfaces such as hydraulic and pneudraulic systems and assemblies; electrical systems and assemblies; indication systems and assemblies; landing gear systems and assemblies; ground refueling and air refueling systems and assemblies; cargo door and ramp systems and assemblies; and flight control system and assemblies. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Ability to plan, schedule and take corrective action to meet emergency and regular work requirements, Skill in written and oral communication. Knowledge and skill of the distribution of personnel to obtain a balanced workload, Ability to operate a computer. Ability to apply computer knowledge and skills into management reports. Knowledge of aircraft and aircraft systems to include operations, installation and repair of a variety of aircraft systems, assemblies, and surfaces such as hydraulic and pneudraulic systems and assemblies; electrical systems and assemblies; indicating systems and assemblies; landing gear systems and assemblies; ground refueling and air refueling systems and assemblies; cargo door and ramp systems and assemblies; and flight control system and assemblies. Ability to detect, isolate and determine when aircraft components and parts should be installed, reworked, repaired or adjusted, and ability to operate a multi-frequency maintenance radio and telecommunications system. Ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications and a verity of technical data. Comprehensive knowledge of safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and local procedures. Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft maintenance management system. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
