Duties
Serves as a technical expert in personal computer hardware, local area networks (LANs), commercial personal computer software, custom personal computer programming, telecommunications and must possess a mastery of these specialty areas. Performs major diagnostics and troubleshooting on personal computers and all related equipment. Responsible for regional information technology (IT) related duties, such as oversight, guidance, and staff training related to information systems and security; and coordination of institution staff assist visits and ensuring operational reviews are conducted in a timely fashion. Responsible for the implementation, maintenance, administration, support and training for the Bureau of Prisons’ (BOP) video tele- conferencing system (VTC). Serves as an expert resource for the IT branches in developing and directing information resource management techniques for use by shared processing environments.

Qualifications
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: GS-13 and GS-14: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at this grade level. Experience: GS-13 and GS-14: You must have IT related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.
Attention to detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
Oral communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
AND Specialized Experience: GS-13 and GS-14: You must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: GS-13:
Experience in providing advanced hardware and software analysis, evaluation and recommendations to users of personal computers and associated equipment to include system planning at various locations.
Experience in planning, organizing, and implementing highly complex and state-ofthe- art local area networks {LAN) and wide area networks {WAN}.
Experience in utilizing established programs, systems or training to guide subordinate performance and career development.
Experience analyzing the need, cost, and feasibility of information technology projects and installed system software or hardware for personal computers on a local area network or a centralized database system.
GS-14:
Experience in designing and/or implementing complex security and system software or hardware for personal computers on a wide area network or a large-scale mainframe system.
Experience developing plans, programs or training to enhance employee performance or career development.
Experience designing, installing, configuring and maintaining a complex arrangement of network computer resources.
Experience serving as a computer contact and resource person for others internal and external to the organization on critical/technical issues.
Performs bench-mark tests of proposed new equipment. Advises upper management of newly developed cost-effective alternatives to present telecommunications and networking equipment.
