This Mail Clerk position is located within the Supply Chain Management Service at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Healthcare System location.

Duties

This position serves as Mailroom Clerk for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. As a Mail Clerk you will be responsible for the overall mail systems operations. The principal duties of this position include the following main components: Incoming Mail, Outgoing Mail Distribution, Controlled Mail, Training, ADP security, and Facility Reproduction program. The Mailroom Supervisor and Lead plans work to be accomplished by subordinates; sets and adjusts short term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work based on priorities;

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/17/2024. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: General Experience: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-3 level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this Mail Clerk position. Specialized experience includes: ensuring the mail is process efficiently and cost effectively, working knowledge of the United States Postal Service, knowledge of various computerized shipping systems, Pitney Bowes, UPS Ship Manager and alternate online carriers' management systems, directing the sorting and screening of official mail, resolving technical difficulties involving the mail machine, computers and other equipment utilized by the Mail Center, resolving problems and providing guidance to others on logistics activities; and making recommendations on improvement of work production and quality of work. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 years above high school. NOTE: If using education to qualify, a copy of your transcript is required. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You may also combine successfully completed education and general experience as outlined above to meet the requirements of the position. Only education beyond a high school may be used to qualify at the GS-04 level. NOTE: If using education combined with general experience to qualify, a copy of your transcript is required. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Eye-Hand CoordinationFlexibilityStandardsTeamworkTechnical Competence Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The position places several physical demands upon the incumbent. Deliver; routes require extensive walking and travel outside between eight (8) buildings regardless of the weather. Work requires standing and walking for extended periods and may require using stairs. In addition, bending, lifting, and carrying of moderately heavy mail bags and packages (up to 70 pounds); pushing mail carts and mail tubs to deliver mail and packages throughout the hospital, and pushing mail tubs outside the building for the USPS carrier to load.
