The primary purpose of the position is to conduct maintenance, repair and restoration programs consisting of the following activities: periodic visual and operational inspections of buildings to determine repairs and/or service required. Inspections include but are not limited to masonry buildings and structures both, contemporary and historic.

Duties

Responsible for the maintenance, repair, alteration and construction of exterior and interior surfaces and structures built of brick, stone and block. Repairs and maintains historic masonry on buildings, parapets, and boundary fences, chimneys, fireplaces, manholes, and boilers. Must be able to match existing historic surfaces. Must have a comprehensive knowledge of mixing techniques, applications, etc. Must have extensive skills in cutting and shaping block, terra cotta, brick and stone. Incumbent must be able to remove portions of walls, partitions or other similar structures and repair in kind, and for the installation of doors and windows. Must be able to patch and/or replace stucco, including paper, wire, scratch and brown coats, to match existing historic surfaces. Must have a comprehensive knowledge of concrete, terra cotta brick, and stucco surfaces, such as characteristics, mixing techniques, applications, etc. Must have extensive skills in cutting and shaping block, terra cotta brick, and stone. **INITIAL CUT OFF IS Monday, 16 December 2024**This is an open continuous vacancy announcement. Have knowledge and experience that demonstrates the ability to do the work of this position at a journeyman level. Experience is defined as: 1)Lays out masonry work and accurately lines up courses so that they are level and the corners are plumb; 2)Cuts and shapes stone, brick, and block; 3)Completes masonry repairs and finishes mortar joints to match undamaged portions of a structure and/or monument; 4) Has practical knowledge of other construction trades; 5) Ability to read and write, and to interpret blueprints, work instructions and other technical guides; 6) Uses, operates and maintains all hand and portable power tools associated with the trades such as concrete mortar mixers, napping hammer, brick or skill saw, chisel, pick, etc. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
