These positions are temporary and may not exceed 1039 hours (six months) in a service year. They may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs.
Positions may not be filled at every duty station.
Duties
The parks and duty stations hiring for these positions are below, as is each park's anticipated seasonal period. The typical seasonal period may vary during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: April/May 2025.
Denali National Park and Preserve: Denali Park, AK (May - September)
Kenai Fjords National Park: Seward, AK (May - September)
Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park: Skagway, AK (April - October)
Lake Clark National Park and Preserve: Port Alsworth, AK (May - October)
Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve: Copper Center and McCarthy, AK (May - September). Applicants that apply to and are selected for McCarthy will be duty stationed at Kennecott, AK.
Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve and Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve: Bettles, Eagle and Circle Hot Springs, AK (May - October). Applicants that apply to and are selected for Circle Hot Springs will be duty stationed at Coal Creek Camp, AK.
Selectees may be moved between duty stations within park boundaries.
Government housing is available at Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve and Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve. It may be available at Denali National Park and Preserve, Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, Lake Clark National Park and Preserve and Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. It is not available at Kenai Fjords National Park.
Work includes, but is not limited to the following:
Operating light duty motor vehicles such as pickup trucks, sedans, flatbed trucks, etc., up to 10,000 pounds to transport personnel, supplies, materials, equipment, and tools throughout the park.
Maintaining buildings, grounds, road, and trails by operating heavy power equipment and hand tools such as lawn mowers, portable snow blowers, shovels, rakes, lawn edging equipment, tar pots, culvert steamers, brush chippers, power compactors, power saws, chainsaws, rock bars, picks, axes, crosscut saws, single-jack hammers, etc. Cleaning and maintaining equipment. Performing janitorial duties for buildings.
Loading and unloading supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, dollies. Moving heavy items using wheelbarrows and hand trucks.
Moving furniture; removing and setting signs; painting picnic tables and signs; raking and watering lawns; trimming trees and shrubbery; picking up litter; cleaning fire pits, etc.
Digging ditches and trenches with picks and shovels where soil is hard and compact and must be graded or sloped. Breaking up pavement, soil, or concrete; mixing and pouring concrete, asphalt, and hot/cold mix; filling and leveling holes in damaged roads.
Cutting heavy trees with an ax or chainsaw, stacking heavy logs, lumber, and sacks of cement.
In addition, WG-05 positions operate vehicles over Federal, state, and country roads and city streets in all traffic conditions following applicable speeds.
Physical Demands: The work performed requires the exertion of moderate to very heavy physical effort. The work involves lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80 to 100 pounds (or more) with assistance.
Working Conditions: Outside work is usually performed under all kinds of weather conditions. Indoor work is often accomplished in office buildings or in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas such as warehouses, loading docks, or trade shops. Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust, and dirt and the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, safety glasses, and steel-toe shoes to avoid possible hazards in the work area.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
