About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Plans,Training, Mobilization and Security Training Division, Range Support Branch Fort Riley, KS, with duty at Orogrande / Otero / New Mexico.
Duties
Perform Operator/Maintainer duties on select ranges, such as replacing batteries, switches, cables, coil boxes, microcircuits and targets in completing repairs.
Ensure hardware and software are compatible and properly configured to preclude malfunctions and conflict in programs and operating systems used for targets.
Inspect and troubleshoot electrical pop-up target mechanisms, ensuring controls and target mechanisms are operational prior to and after use.
Operate four- wheel drive vehicles with standard transmission and all-terrain type vehicles on hazardous roads and terrains.
Assist in controlling and monitoring aircraft and ground training on the installation.
Operate land mobile radio/telephone systems to ensure units are in assigned areas and to respond to requests for assistance.
Manage monthly range maintenance report for leadership meetings and assist in providing range maintenance cost input to the annual range operations budget.
Provide guidance on regulations and procedures for range and land uses, safety, environmental concerns and restrictions, to military personnel.
Work independently or with Range Maintenance technician to install or repair targetry, fabricate targets, repair range and associated support equipment such as buildings, bleachers, etc).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State Driver's license to perform the duties of this position.
- Must be able to operate both a four-wheel drive vehicle with standard transmission and an off-road all-terrain vehicle.
- Incumbent must take a pre-employment physical and annual physical there after required to verify the incumbent is in good physical condition and can meet the physical requirements of this position.
- Incumbent May be required to work irregular hours to include rotation between major training areas, shift work, rotating shifts and weekend/holiday work and overtime.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Position requires Range Safety Training and Certification, which may be obtain within one year of employment. Inability to obtain and maintain this certification may result in termination.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Target System Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator)~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common Target System worker (Motor Vehicle Operator) duties including 1) troubleshooting, inspecting, and/or repairing target mechanism systems 2) troubleshooting and/or repairing of electrical pop-up target mechanisms and 3) assisting range personnel with inspecting, maintaining or servicing computer systems, equipment or applications used in range operations. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision
PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Work requires inspection of field sites, necessitating walking, standing and climbing. Incumbent must be able to pick up and carry 45 pounds and up to 75 pounds with assistance.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in all kinds of weather in an outdoor environment; however, some work is performed in an office environment. Some work is performed at range sites where the exposures to hazardous materials or instruments exist.
