This position is in the Office of Military Commissions (OMC), which was established by the Secretary of Defense in 2002 to conduct trials of enemy combatants who violate the laws of war. The office is located in Alexandria, VA with other facilities located in the National Capitol Region and at the U.S. Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. This position serves as the Department Head, Office of Court Administration (OCA) for OMC.

Duties

Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Responsible for the day-to-day operations of military commissions cases and provides managerial leadership for court staff including court reporters, stenographers, and interpreters. Oversees and arranges the translation of testimony and documents for the military judge and parties. Prepares documents for Convening Authority action and advises on matters affection commission members. Effectively projects milestone schedules allowing flexibility to adjust work activities and schedules to meet emergency conditions of unanticipated requirements while achieving completion of assigned projects.

  • The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) and Special Access Programs (SAP) components
  • This position may require occasional travel away from your normal duty station for official business on military or commercial aircraft
  • The incumbent is required to hold a current United States passport
  • Relocation incentive may be authorized in accordance with regulatory requirements

  • This position may require a one-year supervisory probationary period

Overseeing the legal administrative functions related to court reporting such as production of verbatim record of trial; 2. Providing guidance to support court administration operations; 3. Understanding court reporting automation systems such as stenotype machines, voice dictation machines, computers, and/or software; And 4. Managing work to be accomplished by subordinates. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
