Duties

If selected for this position, you will serve as a Paralegal Specialist with the United States Attorney's Office, Middle District of Georgia. Duties will include, but are not limited to: Reviews investigative reports, testimonies, interviews, files, and documents. Conducts document review on productions from agencies, clients, and opposing parties, including review and tagging in e-litigation review platforms. Researches, analyzes, and summarizes a variety of relevant legal precedence including cite checking. Provides advice on the most efficient and effective ways to organize, prepare, present and maintain a variety of legal documents, including working with a variety of e-litigation technology and tools. Prepares a wide variety of legal documents, which may be voluminous or complex in format. Prepare a variety of substantive legal documents to include written discovery requests, reports on investigation, and documentation relevant to acquiring evidence or testimony. Performs legal research on issues and cases identified by the attorney(s), including researching cases, law, statutes, regulations, court rules, policies, procedures, legal periodicals, and other legal authorities that are relevant to the particular issue. Provide litigation case management and organize cases for court presentation. Serves as Civil Division records custodian. Provides a variety of administrative support to assigned attorneys. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

GS-07: To be eligible for the GS-07, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience: To be eligible at the GS-07 level, you must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing paralegal or legal work, which demonstrates a basic knowledge of legal research and the ability to interpret legal decisions. Examples of specialized experience may include the following: reviewing legal documents to extract information related to specific issues; verifying citations and statutory references contained in legal documents; drafting briefs, pleadings, litigation recommendations, or other legal documents and correspondence; using a variety of electronic or manual filing systems to acquire and store information; document findings and preparing recommendations; searching and reviewing legal references, case files, and other sources for information and data required by attorneys or court personnel. OR Education: One (1) full year of progressively higher level graduate education (18 semester hours or the number of units your school uses to describe one graduate year of academic study) leading to a master's degree, LL.B or JD, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do Paralegal Specialist work; OR a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement (a 3.0 and above GPA, membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies, or a standing in the upper third of your graduating class or major subdivision). OR Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. GS-9: To be eligible for the GS-9, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in Federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include performing the following types of duties: examining and processing a variety of legal documents; conducting research, analysis, and evaluation of data in response to requests; drafting legal documents and correspondence; using automated legal research tools and public information databases to research case-specific legal matters; managing discovery; and using automated litigation support technology to organize case information for retrieval, prepare computerized trial presentations, and index digital evidence. OR Education: Possess one of the following types of education in a related field: a J.D. or LL.B; OR a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or higher; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. (Only graduate education in excess of 1 full year is creditable.) To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)

Education

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above education requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
