This position is part of the Office of Science - Headquarters, Department of Energy. As a Security Specialist, you will be responsible for the information security and classification program. The incumbent will perform reviews of the information security and classification programs and make informed decisions that will impact national security.

Requirements
- You must be a United States Citizen.
- This employer participates in the e-Verify program.

- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.

- This position does not support 100% remote work. You will be required to report physically to the official reporting worksite as specified by the supervisor, but no less than 2 days per pay period.
- You are required to submit a Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE-450, Executive Branch Personnel Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of entering the position and annually at the GS-14 grade level only.
- This position has been designated as Top Secret and requires a security clearance at the "Q" LEVEL. The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain this clearance; failure to do so may result in separation from federal service.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing thereafter. Failure to test or a positive result on random drug tests conducted after appointment may result in removal from Federal employment.
- Occasional travel is required.
- This position is included in the Department of Energy's Technical Qualification Program (TQP). The selectee will be required to meet core, position, and site specific technical qualification standards typically within 12 to 18 months.
- Hiring incentives may be authorized for a highly qualified candidate based on budget availability and in accordance with federal regulations. Permanent change of station (PCS) is not authorized.
Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS GS-13: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:
Reviewing documents to administer or ensure correct classification or declassification of information.
Providing guidance on the organization's classified and controlled unclassified information protection strategies and programs to include storage, processing, transmission, or destruction.
Conducting oversight and assessment of security programs.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS GS-14: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:
Implementing an information security program that involve marking and safeguarding of classified or unclassified physical documents.
Reviewing policies for the security of classified information to ensure organizational compliance.
Providing guidance to contractors to ensure security requirements are met and information is protected.
Conducting information security program assessments.
There are no specific education requirements or substitution of education for experience for this position.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

CTAP/ICTAP candidates: To be considered "well qualified" you must (1) meet all of the requirements as described in this section; and 2) be rated "well-qualified", which is defined as having a score of 85 or better.
